Animation Isn't Everything
The Story of South Park
South Park is undoubtedly one of the most influential series of the past 20 years. In addition to its humor, clever satire, and original stories, its backstories are just as noteworthy and crucial to better understanding what it is that makes it such a unique and special show. In this Documentary (or Video Essay) I want to analyze the journey of Trey Parker & Matt Stone by asking a series of questions about animation, including: what is it that makes an animated product worthwhile? This seem the right time to post this since very soon they'll drop South Park Post Covid on Paramount+ In order to answer this question, I analyzed their first steps, technique, modus operandi, and controversial episodes. This also required numerous comparisons with other famous series, ranging from the Golden Age to the Hanna-Barbera series, from Ren & Stimpy to the Simpsons.
